Dermal Fillers

Achieving youthful cheeks and full, even lips isn’t something a good skincare regimen can offer you. When you need something to bring that extra fullness or balance out your features, dermal fillers are the answer.

Dermal fillers are a human-made, non-animal-based substance that mimics the naturally-occurring hyaluronic acid produced by the body. These fillers give a plump and youthful appearance, and are the best way to restore fullness to cheeks or improve the appearance of flat, small, or uneven lips.

What does a dermal filler procedure consist of?

With a dermal filler treatment, the practitioner injects a medically developed solution under the patient’s skin with a needle. This practice enhances facial features, working to plump and fill lines, wrinkles, and recessed areas.

Dermal fillers can add volume and fullness to the lips, cheeks and bridge of the nose and the chin. This procedure is popular among those who wish to smooth wrinkles, restore lost shape in the cheeks, or transform the look of their lips.

What kind of results can I expect from dermal fillers?

Lips

With lip fillers, the results are entirely dependent on the look you want. You’ll have a pre-procedure consultation with your doctor, so you’ll have an opportunity to tell them how much filler you’d like and how full you want your lips to look. Typically, you will need more than one appointment to achieve the look you wish to achieve. Of course, this depends on the level of fullness you wish to achieve, and the current size and fullness of your lips.

Cheeks

Cheek fillers are the best way to restore height and fullness to your cheeks, and this can give you a much more youthful look almost instantaneously. They can also add contour to your face if you wish to enhance your already youthful cheeks.

Regardless of the type of filler you choose, be aware that your “final” result will take about 7-10 days to appear. Unlike Botox, which takes time to appear, dermal fillers will look fuller at first, and then settle. This gives you a good opportunity to see the potential results you could achieve with an additional appointment, or if you prefer it once it has settled.

Are dermal fillers permanent?

No, dermal fillers are not permanent. The amount of time fillers last depends on the type of filler and where your doctor injected it. While fillers aren’t permanent, they typically last longer than Botox and can last between 6 and 18 months. Fillers can also be dissolved to return your face to its natural shape.

Is there downtime involved with getting fillers?

Before your treatment, your practitioner will advise you about what you should and shouldn’t do in the days following your procedure.

The targeted area may feel a little red, sore or swollen, but any bruising or swelling should disappear within a couple of days. Your skin may feel tender so, you should avoid wearing make-up immediately after your treatment. Do not sunbathe or use a tanning bed, as this can hinder your healing.

It’s also a good idea to steer clear of alcohol and coffee for a day or two after your procedure.
