How does Invisalign® work?
Invisalign is a series of custom clear aligners that is used for 12 to 18 months. Patients switch aligners every two weeks until they complete treatment. You have to wear your aligners for at least 20 hours a day and remove them for eating and drinking. Brush your teeth before inserting the aligners to prevent decay, gum disease, and bad breath. Invisalign® is a great solution for patients that feel comfortable with the strict routine. Following the daily routine and directions will offer the best results. Otherwise, traditional braces may be a better option.
Do the aligners need cleaning?
Yes. Brush your aligners daily to prevent bacteria buildup. Bacteria can lead to dental issues.
Is Invisalign® more expensive than traditional braces?
Invisalign® actually costs about the same as traditional braces without the metal. Many patients choose the clear aligners as a result.
Will I need to avoid eating certain foods?
The best part of Invisalign® is the freedom to eat normally. You can eat any food as long as you remove the aligners before doing so. And, be sure to brush your teeth before inserting them.
Will I need to wear a retainer afterwards?
Patients will need to wear a retainer. A retainer keeps your teeth from shifting back. We will advise you on how to wear the retainer since each patient will have different needs.
